Seun Kuti is Fela Anikulapo Kuti ‘s youngest son. Seun's father, Fela Kuti, was Nigeria's most beloved popular musician,  most acerbic social and critic of the military regime and one of Africa s best-known pop music stars in the 1970s and 1980s. A founder and pioneer of the Afrobeat, who with his powerful and original music become extremely popular and respected throughout the world. The importance of Fela for African and pop music could be compared with the one of Bob Marley had for reggae. Seun started learning to play saxophone when he was eight, which is also when he started taking piano lessons. Seun Kuti has been performing on stage since he was nine years old. He joined the legendary ensemble of his father, Egypt 80.  Performing on stage with as many as twenty singers and musicians was such an effective practical education that when Fela died in 1997, Seun, then just fifteen, was ready to take over. Since then, he has led Egypt 80 as lead vocalist and saxophonist. The Afrobeat of Seun & Fela's Egypt 80 is a mixture of funk, jazz and African melodies, in the manner of James Brown. It is equally explosive like in the era of Fela, with a typical combination of vocals, dancers, brass instruments, guitars and percussion. Besides the music itself, the concerts of Sean Kuti & Fela's Egypt 80, have a special communication between vocals and dancers, with a reputation of being wild, highly energetic and dance spectacle.
