Renowned vibraphone and "bottlephone" virtuoso Zoran Madzirov was born in 1968 as a son of a jazz drummer and a theatre actress. In his early age he received classical training in music, piano, and also studied drums with his father on two ways: Macedonian traditional and jazz drumming. He grew up listening to music of Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis, playing Bach and Mozart on the piano at the school and gigging at night with pop, rock and Balkan folk music on drums. Madzirov went into a more modern direction by the end of 90's in the fields of improvisational, jazz, electronic and creative music in New York City. He is one of the truly mavericks of the Macedonian music today. A superb and innovative musician who has distilled a variety of influences from various styles and sounds into something that is uniquely his own. "Roots on a Roof - Balkano Nuevo" is his most distinctive and personal album to date, released by SJF Records.
