LINA voice, synthesizers
RAÜL REFREE piano, synthesizers

Two incredible musicians generating an intense, moving and very special musical relationship. Raül Refree, one of the most innovative European producers of the last decade (Rosália, Silvia Perez Cruz, Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo etc), was blown away by Lina´s voice, when he saw her sing at Lisbon’s iconic Clube de Fado. Lina, a fado singer with classical training, 2 records on Sony Music and an expert on Amália Rodrigues, selected some of the diva´s fado classics and they immediately started to work in studio, a joint project. Raül created a new soundscape for her haunting interpretations of the great fado queen’s classic repertoire, with brilliant arrangements and a never-before-tried approach, giving fado a unique electronic view underlining its universal condition. Replacing guitars with piano and analogue synths, they have reinvented the music, and done it while keeping the rich beauty of the melodies and the aching poetry of the words that are such a vital part of the tradition. Their album "Lina_Raül Refree", released by Glitterbeat last year, delivers a 21st century spin on fado, rewired and recast, a sound that goes beyond geography. Sometimes you need to break the rules - that is how you end up making history.
